This OID counts, in bits, the number of bit errors detected and corrected by forward error correction (FEC) on this OTU2e (10G Ethernet-mapped optical transport) interface. FEC continuously repairs small numbers of bit errors introduced by noise on the fiber, so tracking this counter lets an admin watch signal quality trend over time and catch a degrading span before FEC's correction capacity is exhausted and errors start leaking through uncorrected. For example, a steadily climbing FEC-corrected bit-error count on a 10G OTU2e tributary wavelength carrying a mapped 10GbE client signal while the interface otherwise stays up can be an early warning of amplifier drift or fiber degradation on that span.
