An administrator compares this live received value against the configured expected DAPI to confirm the signal is truly destined for this facility and not arriving from a misrouted path. For example, seeing an unexpected received DAPI on OTU2e would tell an operator the incoming signal was intended for a different destination, pointing at a cross-connect or patching error upstream.
