Description: The operational state specifies whether or not a resource is able to provide service. The operational state shall be visible to the operator. The user cannot modify the operational state. It provides a simple mechanism for the operator to decide whether a resource is operational or not, therefore this parameter has a read-only nature. The operational state is closely coupled with the alarm status of a resource, i.e. state transitions are triggered internally by the NE software. It can have one of the following values: Down: The resource is totally inoperable and unable to provide service to the user(s) Up: The resource is partially or fully operable and available for use.

What is ospfAreaOperStatus?

This read-only up/down status reflects whether a specific OSPF area is actually operating normally. An admin checks this per area when troubleshooting a partial OSPF problem, since one area can be down while others in the same OSPF instance remain healthy. If only one area shows operStatus down, the fault is likely localized to interfaces or hardware specific to that area rather than the whole routing process.
