Egress drops mean this interface itself could not drain its transmit queue fast enough for the offered load, pointing an admin toward an outbound congestion or oversubscription issue rather than a receive-side signal problem. For example, if a 100GbE line-side interface on a data-center-interconnect (DCI) link shows climbing outbound drop events right after a new high-bandwidth service was provisioned, the admin would suspect the egress side is now oversubscribed relative to what the link can carry.
