This OID counts, in bits, the number of bit errors detected and corrected by forward error correction (FEC) on this 100 Gbps Ethernet (100GbE) interface. FEC continuously repairs small numbers of bit errors introduced by noise on the fiber, so tracking this counter lets an admin watch signal quality trend over time and catch a degrading span before FEC's correction capacity is exhausted and errors start leaking through uncorrected. For example, a steadily climbing FEC-corrected bit-error count on a 100GbE line-side interface on a data-center-interconnect (DCI) link while the interface otherwise stays up can be an early warning of amplifier drift or fiber degradation on that span.
