Module: CODIMA-EXPRESS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CODIMA-EXPRESS-MIB::sseCollisions

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.226.3.2.1.1.2.2.4.1.6

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: Number of Collisions. Collisions are the result of two workstations trying to use shared a transmission medium (cable) simultaneously, e.g., using Ethernet CSMA/CD. The electrical signals, which carry the information the workstations are sending, bump into each other, ruining both signals. This means both workstations will have to re-transmit their information. In most systems, a built-in delay will make sure the collision does not occur again. A value of 4294967294 indicates unknown.

What is sseCollisions?

This read-only Counter32 counts collisions, which the description explains occur when two stations transmit on a shared CSMA/CD medium simultaneously, recorded on the monitored segment as a whole during this 15-second short-term sample, with 4294967294 meaning unknown. An admin uses a high Collisions count on the monitored segment as a whole to recognize a shared-medium or duplex-mismatch problem forcing repeated retransmissions and degrading effective throughput. For example, Collisions rising in step with utilization on the monitored segment as a whole suggests the segment is genuinely contending for a shared medium under load, rather than a duplex misconfiguration that would show high collisions even at low load.
