What is alarmFunction?

This DisplayString, sent with an alarm notification, names the specific function within the event's alarmGroup that this alert relates to, such as the discovery of MAC addresses, IP addresses, or unit-type information. An admin uses it to narrow down exactly what sub-activity within a broader alarm category, e.g. the Discovered Group, triggered this particular notification. For example, an alarmFunction value describing MAC-address discovery within the Discovered Group would tell the admin a new device was just found on the network.
