rlSyslogOriginId

Module: CISCOSB-SYSLOG-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCOSB-SYSLOG-MIB::rlSyslogOriginId

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.82.2.18

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Defines the origin field of the SYSLOG message packets sent to the SYSLOG server

What is rlSyslogOriginId?

This read-write enumerated scalar selects what identifies the device as the origin field in syslog packets sent to a remote syslog server: a default value, the hostname, an IPv4 address, an IPv6 address, or a custom string. Admins set it so remote log collectors can correctly attribute incoming messages to the right device, especially in environments with many similarly named or NATed devices. For example, an admin managing devices behind NAT sets this object to string(5) and configures a unique custom origin string so the central log server can distinguish devices that would otherwise share an apparent source IP.
