Module: CISCOSB-DEBUGCAPABILITIES-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCOSB-DEBUGCAPABILITIES-MIB::rlDebugCapabilitiesPassword

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.6.1.101.206.1

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: DisplayString

Access: read-write

Description: A user intereseted to obtain extended debug capabilities should SET this MIB to a well known secret value (it is intended to be used only by authorized users). Most often, this value will be based on the device MAC address. Upon setting the correct value, the SET operation will return noError. Otherwise, wrongValue will return to the caller. GET operation on this MIB will reurn a value of length 0.

What is rlDebugCapabilitiesPassword?

This read-write DisplayString is a write-only style credential field: setting it to the correct secret value (often based on the device's MAC address) unlocks extended debug capabilities, while a GET always returns a zero-length string and a wrong SET returns wrongValue. An admin or vendor support engineer uses this when advanced diagnostics are needed beyond normal management access, since the correct value must be supplied to enable that mode. For example, a support technician troubleshooting a hard-to-reproduce fault might be given a MAC-address-derived secret to SET here in order to unlock hidden debug commands on that specific unit.
