csDefineFileOperation

Module: CISCO-SM-FILE-DOWNLOAD-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-SM-FILE-DOWNLOAD-MIB::csDefineFileOperation

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.199.1.1.1.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: An integer that defines the file operation: sendToSMsOnly - send file contents saved in database to all applicable service modules. updateAndSend - validate file, save contents into database and send to all applicable service modules.

The database here refers to either a disk or a RAM database that is saved during controller card switchovers. The file contents are saved prior to service module download. In case of failure to download to SMs,the operation could be re-initiated with csDefineFileOperation having value sendToSMsOnly. This would avoid unnecessary download of the same file to controller card storage and file parsing/validation.

What is csDefineFileOperation?

This object chooses whether to just resend an already-stored file to service modules, sendToSMsOnly, or to validate and save a new file into the database before sending, updateAndSend. This distinguishes re-pushing what is already staged from staging a brand-new file and pushing it, which matters operationally, since re-sending an already-validated file to a module that missed the first push does not require re-validating the file, saving time versus a full updateAndSend cycle. After a service module in one slot fails to receive a file due to a transient error, an admin can set this to sendToSMsOnly to resend the already-validated, already-stored file without repeating the validation step.
