An admin monitoring a very busy, modern high-throughput host port should poll this 64-bit counter instead of the 32-bit version to avoid misleading wraparound artifacts in their trending graphs. On a legacy or lightly used port the two counters would track the same underlying activity; the difference only matters once command rates get high enough to wrap the 32-bit version within a typical polling interval.
