bcpConfigSpanTreeControl

Module: CISCO-BCP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-BCP-MIB::bcpConfigSpanTreeControl

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.275.1.2.1.10

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The Spanning-Tree-Protocol configuration option enables a bridge to remain compatible with older implementations of BCP.

When enabled the local BCP Entity initiates a Spanning-Tree-Protocol Option negotiation.

What is bcpConfigSpanTreeControl?

This read-write object controls whether the local BCP entity negotiates the Spanning-Tree-Protocol option, which the description says exists to keep a bridge compatible with older implementations of BCP. Enabling it lets the local BCP entity negotiate which spanning-tree protocol variant, chosen separately in bcpConfigSpanTree, governs loop prevention across the bridged link, and its stated purpose is specifically backward compatibility with older implementations that expect this option to be explicitly negotiated. Bridging to older equipment that strictly expects spanning-tree protocol identification per the original BCP spec would need this enabled to interoperate cleanly, even if a newer peer would work fine without it.
