bcpConfigMacSupport

Module: CISCO-BCP-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-BCP-MIB::bcpConfigMacSupport

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.275.1.2.1.5

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: The Mac-Support configuration option is provided to permit implementations to indicate the sort of traffic they are prepared to receive.

When enabled the local BCP entity initiates a Mac-Support Option negotiation.

What is bcpConfigMacSupport?

This read-write object controls whether the local BCP entity initiates negotiation of the Mac-Support option, provided to let implementations indicate what sort of traffic they are prepared to receive. Enabling it makes the local BCP entity actually announce which MAC frame type it can accept, the specific type itself set separately in bcpConfigMacType, so leaving it disabled means the peer has no negotiated confirmation of what MAC format to expect. A half-bridge connecting an 802.5 Token Ring segment to an 802.3 Ethernet segment needs this enabled so the peer specifically negotiates and confirms the expected MAC type rather than assuming a default.
