What is cApsChanStatusSwitchovers?

This Counter32 tallies how many times this specific working channel has switched over onto the protection line, and by definition always reads 0 when queried for channel number 0 (the protection line itself), since the protection line can't switch to itself. A high count on one particular working channel relative to its siblings in the same 1:n group is a clear indicator that channel's underlying physical path is chronically less reliable and repeatedly needing the shared protection resource. For example, if one working channel in a four-channel group shows a switchover count in the dozens while the other three show single digits, that lopsided pattern points to a persistent problem specifically on that one channel's line rather than anything affecting the group as a whole.
