Description: The cumulative Protection Switching Duration (PSD) time in seconds. For a working channel, this is the cumulative number of seconds that service was carried on the protection line. For the protection line, this is the cumulative number of seconds that the protection line has been used to carry any working channel traffic. This information is only valid if revertive switching is enabled. The value 0 will be returned otherwise.
What is cApsChanStatusSwitchoverSeconds?
This Counter32 accumulates the total number of seconds this channel's traffic has spent riding the protection line (if this row is a working channel) or, if this row is the protection line itself, the total seconds it has spent carrying any working channel's traffic at all -- but critically, this value is described as only meaningful when revertive switching is enabled for the group, since a nonrevertive group's channels could otherwise sit on protection indefinitely in a way that makes this cumulative-duration metric less useful. An admin in a revertive 1:n group can use this to calculate what fraction of time the shared protection channel has actually been in use, informing capacity planning about whether the single protection line is being asked to cover for working channels excessively often. For example, if the protection line's own row shows a large cumulative switchover-seconds value relative to the device's total uptime, that tells the admin the shared backup path has spent a substantial fraction of its life actively carrying traffic rather than sitting idle, which could be a sign the working lines it protects are unusually failure-prone.
