Module: CISCO-APS-MIB

OID (symbolic): CISCO-APS-MIB::cApsChanStatusSignalFailures

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.10.71.1.6.1.3

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: A count of Signal Failure conditions that have been detected on the incoming signal. This condition occurs when a loss of signal, loss of frame, AIS-L or a Line bit error rate exceeding 10^-3 is detected on an incoming line.

What is cApsChanStatusSignalFailures?

This Counter32 tallies Signal Failure conditions detected on this channel's incoming signal, which per the SONET standard can be triggered by any of several distinct root causes bundled into one counter: a complete loss of signal, a loss of frame alignment, an AIS-L (Line Alarm Indication Signal) being received, or the bit error rate exceeding 10^-3. Because this single counter conflates several different underlying problems, a rising count alone tells an admin something failed on this channel but not which specific cause, requiring them to also check other status objects to fully diagnose it. For example, a channel repeatedly incrementing this counter might be experiencing intermittent complete signal loss (perhaps a loose connector) rather than a steady elevated error rate, and the admin would need additional diagnostics beyond this counter alone to distinguish the two.
