Description: Counter indicating a change in the system alarm level due to change either at the slot or port alarm level. This will be incremented by the system whenever any new alarm is raised or cleared at slot or port level. This is needed as rising or clearing of an alarm at port or slot level may not cause systemAlarmLevel to change. This counter, in such case helps manager application to recognize that alarm levels below system level has changed without causing change in the systemAlarmLevel. e.g. Say: System has two subscriber lines experiencing a minor alarm condition. systemAlarmLevel will be a minor alarm in such case. Now if one of the port level minor alarms clear, a port alarm level would become OK but the system and slot alarm levels may stay as a minor alarm.

What is systemAlarmLevelChngCounter?

A counter that increments each time the system-wide alarm level changes because an alarm was raised or cleared at the slot or port level, letting a manager detect changes without constant polling.

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Select a Cisco 6200 series DSLAM (legacy) as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type systemAlarmLevelChngCounter into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, then select it and click OK. It reports the counter indicating a change in the system alarm level due to change either at the slot or port alarm level. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter32-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
