cienaCesOspfIfTransmitTimerDelay

Module: CIENA-CES-OSPF-MIB

OID (symbolic): CIENA-CES-OSPF-MIB::cienaCesOspfIfTransmitTimerDelay

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1271.2.1.19.1.2.2.1.7

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-only

Description: The time this interface delays a LSU packet, in order to add more LSAs to the packet before sending. Setting this correctly can reduce the network traffic. This is configurable on a per-interface basis.

What is cienaCesOspfIfTransmitTimerDelay?

This read-only INTEGER (1 to 429496799 ms) reports how long this interface delays sending an LSU, Link State Update, packet in order to batch in additional LSAs before transmitting, per its description, a per-interface tunable specifically intended to reduce network traffic by combining multiple LSA updates into fewer packets. A longer delay here trades a small amount of flooding latency for meaningfully less update traffic on links carrying frequent topology changes, which matters most on bandwidth-constrained or high-fanout interfaces. An engineer tuning OSPF flooding overhead on a low-bandwidth WAN interface with many attached LSAs would increase this delay specifically on that interface to reduce the packet rate, accepting slightly slower propagation of any single change.
