It might seem contradictory for a permanent tunnel to be marked backup or on-demand, but Check Point allows a permanent tunnel to still be the secondary path in a redundant pair; this field tells the admin whether the currently-up permanent link is the intended primary or is quietly serving as backup because the true primary failed. Example: a permanent tunnel reporting permanentTunnelLinkPriority backup(1) as the one currently carrying traffic reveals the primary permanent link has failed over, even though permanent traffic is still flowing.
