swCFMExtMgmtAISPeriod

Module: CFMEXTENSION-MIB

OID (symbolic): CFMEXTENSION-MIB::swCFMExtMgmtAISPeriod

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.86.1.1.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object indicates the transmitting interval of AIS PDU.

What is swCFMExtMgmtAISPeriod?

This selects how frequently the switch retransmits AIS protocol data units once the AIS condition is active, choosing between a fast one-second interval and a slower one-minute interval, per the IEEE 802.1ag standard's defined AIS transmission rates. The transmission interval affects how quickly a downstream device relying on receiving AIS PDUs can detect if the AIS signal itself stops, implying the underlying fault cleared, so a faster interval gives quicker fault-clear detection at the cost of slightly more control-plane traffic. An admin in a latency-sensitive carrier network might choose one-second(1) to minimize the delay before downstream systems recognize a fault has been resolved, while a less time-critical deployment might use one-minute(2) to reduce control traffic overhead.
