ipExtIfTcpCksum

Module: BIANCA-BRICK-IP-MIB

OID (symbolic): BIANCA-BRICK-IP-MIB::ipExtIfTcpCksum

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.272.4.5.3.1.17

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: Enable or disable the TCP checksum check for local packets received on the corresponding interface. Disabling the check may improve performance for some local applications (i.e. remote CAPI). This object should only be set to dont-check on interfaces for LANs without further routers. Packets received from routers may have a corrupted TCP checksum and TCP will no longer be able to detect those packets. The TCP checksum must be checked by the receiving TCP under any circumstances, when TCP header compression is used on any router.

What is ipExtIfTcpCksum?

This setting controls whether the device validates TCP checksum integrity for packets arriving on a specific interface. Setting this to 'dont-check' bypasses validation to reduce CPU overhead on high-speed local LANs, trading safety for throughput. An admin might set ipExtIfTcpCksum to dont-check on a LAN interface connecting trusted medical devices that are known to have firmware checksum bugs, but never on an Internet-facing interface.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.272.4.5.3.1.17
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> BIANCA-BRICK-IP-MIB::ipExtIfTcpCksum

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.272.4.5.3.1.17.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> BIANCA-BRICK-IP-MIB::ipExtIfTcpCksum.1

Set instance 1 (SNMPv2c):

snmpset -v2c -c private <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.272.4.5.3.1.17.1 i <value>
