What Is ARBOR-SMI?
ARBOR-SMI is the Structure of Management Information module for Arbor Networks, defining the enterprise OID hierarchy used by Arbor's Peakflow DDoS detection and mitigation platform. It belongs to the network security/DDoS-mitigation technology area. As a pure SMI registration module it establishes the OID namespace under which Arbor's actual data-bearing MIBs, covering traffic anomaly detection, mitigation status, and system health, are organized, rather than exposing any monitoring data itself. It therefore has no direct objects for uptime, CPU, or interface counters — those are defined in dependent Arbor Peakflow MIB modules layered on top of this tree. Operators setting up an Arbor Peakflow deployment for the first time typically start with an ARBOR-SMI download from the vendor's software distribution before loading the dependent detection and mitigation MIBs. It depends on the standard SNMPv2-SMI enterprise-registration convention and is a prerequisite for loading any other Arbor-specific MIB. It is used in service-provider and enterprise security operations centers running Arbor Peakflow SP/TMS appliances for DDoS detection and mitigation.
IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in ARBOR-SMI. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.
Supported Devices
- NETSCOUT Arbor Sightline — current DDoS visibility/detection platform, rebrand of Arbor Peakflow SP
- NETSCOUT Arbor Threat Mitigation System (TMS) — current DDoS mitigation appliance, successor to Peakflow TMS
Monitoring Examples
ARBOR-SMI contains no sample objects because it is solely an OID-registration module; there is no runtime monitoring scenario to describe honestly for this module alone — actual traffic/mitigation data would be polled from the dependent Arbor Peakflow MIBs it enables.
