This 32-bit counter records instances where the received ATM cells exceed the AAL5 (ATM Adaptation Layer 5) payload size specified in the packet. A network engineer uses this to diagnose data link problems like cell loss or protocol misalignment on ATM interfaces. For example, a value of 12 indicates the equipment detected 12 instances where too many cells arrived for the announced payload size.
