Module: ACMIB

OID (symbolic): ACMIB::bridgeDomainLearnedEntryDiscards

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.1751.2.18.5.9.1.19

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Integer32

Access: read-only

Description: The total number of Forwarding Database entries, which have been or would have been learnt, but have been discarded due to a lack of space to store them in the Forwarding Database. If this counter is increasing, it indicates that the Forwarding Database is regularly becoming full (a condition which has unpleasant performance effects on the subnetwork). If this counter has a significant value but is not presently increasing, it indicates that the problem has been occurring but is not persistent.

What is bridgeDomainLearnedEntryDiscards?

This OID tracks how many MAC address entries were discarded because the bridge's forwarding database table was completely full and could not store them. Engineers use this counter to detect when switches are experiencing table exhaustion, which can cause some unicast traffic to be flooded as unknown destinations. A nonzero or climbing value indicates the need for a larger MAC table or investigation of excessive device churn.
