This OID stores the high-order 32 bits of an odometer-style cumulative counter for cells received on an ATM SVC VCC in direction 'A', providing lifetime accounting that persists across connection resets. Network engineers use the odometer counter to track total usage over the life of a circuit for long-term billing and capacity planning, unlike session counters that reset. If the odometer shows cells have been received but the session counter shows zero, it proves the connection was reset but the historical total is preserved in the odometer.
