What Is A3COM-HUAWEI-BLG-MIB?

A3COM-HUAWEI-BLG-MIB is a jointly-branded 3Com/H3C (Huawei-3Com) proprietary MIB for managing the Broadband Layer Gateway (BLG) 'balance group' feature on switches and routers, used for subscriber session load-balancing/binding across gateway links. It exposes a statistics table tracking per-group transmitted and received packet and byte counts, along with a control object to clear those counters. Its monitoring value is primarily software/traffic performance status of the balance group feature: administrators track h3cBlgGroupTxPacketCount/h3cBlgGroupRxPacketCount and the corresponding byte counters to confirm traffic is being load-balanced across the group as expected, and use h3cBlgGroupCountClear to reset counters for a fresh measurement interval. It is a vendor-specific feature MIB without an apparent dependency on IETF standard MIBs beyond generic SNMP counter conventions. It is deployed in broadband access networks using 3Com/H3C switches/routers to balance subscriber traffic load across gateway groups. Engineers can download the A3COM-HUAWEI-BLG-MIB file directly to load it into their MIB browser.

IPNetwork Monitor allows you to monitor SNMP objects defined in A3COM-HUAWEI-BLG-MIB. Use the built-in SNMP Monitoring Browser to explore available variables, view their current values and descriptions, and select the objects you want to monitor. You can then create SNMP monitors, configure thresholds, and receive alerts when monitored values change.

Supported Devices

  • H3C (3Com-Huawei) switches and routers -- Broadband Layer Gateway 'balance group' feature

Monitoring Examples

An admin would poll h3cBlgStatsTable/h3cBlgStatsEntry, indexed by h3cBlgIndex, to compare h3cBlgGroupTxPacketCount and h3cBlgGroupRxPacketCount across group members, identifying an imbalance that suggests one link in the balance group is underutilized or failing. h3cBlgGroupTxByteCount/h3cBlgGroupRxByteCount give the corresponding byte-level view for bandwidth-based balance verification, and h3cBlgGroupCountClear can be set to reset all counters before starting a new measurement window.

What Can Be Monitored

  • balance group transmit packet count
  • balance group receive packet count
  • balance group transmit/receive byte count
  • counter reset control

How to Use in IPNetwork Monitor

Example using h3cBlgGroupTxPacketCount OID:

Select an H3C switch and router as the target host to create a monitor — the SNMP service should be up and running on it. Click New Monitor, then check SNMP Custom on the Favorites tab, click Next, and confirm the host. On the next page, click Select... to open the built-in SNMP MIB Browser and type h3cBlgGroupTxPacketCount into the Find box to locate it in the OID tree, selecting the specific row/instance you want to monitor since this is a table column, then select it and click OK. It reports the when retrieved, this object returns the count of packets the balance group has sent. On the monitor's Main parameters page you can set the target's SNMP port (default 161), credentials, polling interval, and other settings — see the SNMP Monitor help for details. On the State conditions and Alerting tabs, configure when the monitor should change state and trigger an alert; since this is a Counter64-type OID, Value bounds is the most useful condition here — trigger an alert if the counter increases sharply between polls relative to its normal baseline, since an unexpected spike often reflects a real change in traffic or activity. Click Finish to create the monitor; you can adjust any parameter later.
