Access Password

An access password is used

  • to protect the other passwords in the monitoring database (they are stored in encrypted form and a master password is used to derive an encryption key)
  • to restrict access to the client GUI: other Windows users will have to enter the password once when they start the client; the same user will not be asked to enter the password again until you change it.

If you move your existing monitoring database and install IPNetwork Monitor on another computer, you will be asked to enter an access password as well. Make sure to remember it or write it down and store in a secret place.

Frequently Asked Questions

Check out our Knowledge Base where we answer questions regarding various topics.

What is the access password used for?

The access password protects other passwords stored in the monitoring database and restricts access to the client GUI for Windows users who have not already entered it.

Why is the access password needed after moving a monitoring database?

When an existing monitoring database is moved to another computer, IPNetwork Monitor asks for the access password so it can access the encrypted data correctly.

Should the access password be stored somewhere safe?

Yes. Remember it or store it in a secret place, because it is needed to unlock protected monitoring database information and client access.
