IPNetwork Monitor enables you to evaluate and track the performance metrics of network servers. A built-in MIB browser lets you choose which parameters to monitor, providing access to all server-supported variables, their current values, and descriptions sourced from MIBs.
Network servers, broadly defined, are networked devices (hardware or software) that deliver one or more network services, often employing a client-server architecture. The diverse range of server types makes a comprehensive list of supported protocols and functions impractical. Broad categories include, but are not limited to, mail servers, web servers, media servers, and file servers.
More narrowly defined, servers are specialized operating system implementations and/or hardware appliances designed to provide various network services with greater efficiency and dependability compared to desktop or mobile devices.
Typical Server Monitoring Applications
Server monitoring, depending on the specific server type (i.e., the services offered and the server’s primary role), can be employed to confirm service availability, assess service quality, identify potential bottlenecks (like quotas or congestion), and address general hardware health and uptime concerns.
MIBs Utilized for Monitoring Server Devices
- ARROWPOINT-DNSSERVEREXT-MIB: This MIB module details ArrowPoint’s enterprise MIB support for DNS Server.
- ARROWPOINT-SSHDEXT-MIB: This MIB module details ArrowPoint’s enterprise MIB support for SSHD.
- BLACKBERRYSERVER-MIB: This MIB module defines Management Objects for RIM BlackBerry Servers.
- BORDERWARE-FW-MIB: This MIB module contains BorderWare Firewall Server information; Borderware SNMP extensions.
- CISCO-AAA-CLIENT-CAPABILITY: This MIB module defines Management Objects for CISCO-AAA-CLIENT MIB Agent Capabilities.
- CISCO-AAA-CLIENT-MIB: This MIB module offers data on authentication method prioritization based on Authentication, Authorization, and Accounting (AAA) protocols.
- CISCO-AAA-SERVER-CAPABILITY: This MIB module defines Management Objects for Cisco AAA Server MIB Agent Capabilities.
- CISCO-AAA-SERVER-EXT-CAPABILITY: This MIB module defines Management Objects for Cisco AAA Server Ext MIB Agent Capabilities.
- CISCO-AAA-SERVER-EXT-MIB: This MIB extends the CISCO-AAA-SERVER-MIB. It enhances the ‘casConfigTable’ to accommodate different Server address types.
- CISCO-AAA-SERVER-MIB: MIB module for monitoring AAA Server communication and operational status.
- CISCO-AAA-SESSION-MIB: This MIB module provides accounting session data based on AAA protocols.
- CISCO-NS-MIB: The MIB module manages the Cisco Name Server, which implements the FC-GS3 Name Server (NS) requirements.
- CISCO-NTP-MIB: This MIB module defines mechanisms for NTP server monitoring.
- CISCO-RPMS-MIB: This MIB contains objects relevant to a Resource Policy Management System (RPMS) server.
- CISCO-SLB-MIB: The MIB for managing Server Load Balancing Manager(s), like the Cisco IOS SLB product. This MIB includes tools for the manager-side implementation of the Dynamic Feedback Protocol (DFP). A DFP uses the DFP protocol to communicate with DFP agents to gather information about Servers. It also includes the objects needed for the load balancer management side of the Server/Application State Protocol (SASP). The load balancer registers Members with an aSASP-Agent. A Member is an entity defined on the load balancer to handle Internet traffic. The Agent monitors the Members and recommends a weight to the load balancer for load balancing decisions.
- CISCO-TN3270SERVER-MIB: MIB module for the TN3270 Server. The PU and LU MIB are defined in RFC 1666. This MIB offers supplementary information on IP and LU mapping.
- CISCO-VMPS-MIB: MIB module for managing the VLAN Membership Policy Server.
- CISCO-ZS-EXT-MIB: The MIB module for managing zoning in Cisco’s Zoning Server (ZS) Architecture, implementing the FC-GS4/SW3 Zone Server requirements. This MIB extends the CISCO-ZS-MIB, which manages zoning per FC-GS3/SW2.
- CISCO-ZS-MIB: The MIB module manages zoning within Cisco’s Zoning Server (ZS) Architecture, fulfilling the FC-GS3 Zone Server requirements. This MIB allows administrators to configure and monitor zoning server parameters. Cisco’s Zoning Server also supports LUN zoning configuration, an extension to the FC-GS3 Zoning Server standard.
- CPQHLTH-MIB: This module is the SNMP Network Management Server Health Features MIB.
- CPQRECOV-MIB: This module is the Recovery Server Management MIB for SNMP Network Management.
- DCLRA_MIB-MIB: This MIB module contains information related to the Dell Server Split Management Information Base.
- DCS3RMT-MIB: This MIB module is the Server Administrator Remote Access MIB for the Server3 MIB Branch.
- DELL_ASF-MIB: This is the MIB module for Dell Server ASF PET events.
- DELLBASEBOARDMIF-MIB: This is the MIB module for Dell Servers.
- DNS-SERVER-MIB: MIB module for entities implementing the server side of the Domain Name System (DNS) protocol.
- EXTREME-SLB-MIB: This MIB Module contains Extreme Server Load Balancing information.
- FTPSERVER-MIB: MIB module describing FTP Server objects.
- GATEWAYSERVER-MIB: This MIB module defines management objects for the Microsoft Gateway Server.
- GOPHERSERVER-MIB: This MIB module defines management objects for the Microsoft Gopher Server.
- HTTPSERVER-MIB: This MIB module contains object information for HTTP Servers.
- INTERNETSERVER-MIB: This MIB module contains information related to Microsoft Internet Server Common Statistics.
- MSFT-MIB: This MIB module contains information related to Microsoft Server. It has been modified for compatibility with SNMP4W2K PERFMIB.
- MSSQLSERVER-MIB: Module describing objects for Microsoft SQL Server relational databases.
