ssCpuRawSteal

Module: UCD-SNMP-MIB

OID (symbolic): UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuRawSteal

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.11.64

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: Counter32

Access: read-only

Description: The number of 'ticks' (typically 1/100s) spent by the hypervisor code to run other VMs even though the CPU in the current VM had something runnable.

This object will not be implemented on hosts where the underlying operating system does not measure this particular CPU metric.

On a multi-processor system, the 'ssCpuRaw*' counters are cumulative over all CPUs, so their sum will typically be N*100 (for N processors).

What is ssCpuRawSteal?

This OID is a running counter of the clock ticks the hypervisor spent running other virtual machines while this VM had work ready to run, summed across all CPUs. An admin on a virtualized host monitors this steal time to determine whether performance problems are caused by contention with other VMs on the same physical host rather than this VM's own workload.

Examples

Walk all instances (SNMPv2c):

snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.11.64
snmpwalk -v2c -c public <target> UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuRawSteal

Get a specific instance (index 1):

snmpget -v2c -c public <target> 1.3.6.1.4.1.2021.11.64.1
snmpget -v2c -c public <target> UCD-SNMP-MIB::ssCpuRawSteal.1
