swL2PTPortType

Module: L2PROTOCOL-TUNNEL-MIB

OID (symbolic): L2PROTOCOL-TUNNEL-MIB::swL2PTPortType

OID (numeric): 1.3.6.1.4.1.171.12.93.1.2.1.2

Node type: OBJECT-TYPE

Type: INTEGER

Access: read-write

Description: This object indicates the Layer 2 protocol tunneling port type.

The 'none' value indicates that the port is normal. Layer 2 protocol tunneling is disabled on this port.

The 'uni' value indicates that the port is connected to the customer site. A Layer 2 PDU received on a UNI port can be tunneled to a remote customer site across the provider network.

The 'nni' value indicates that the port is connected to the provider network. A Tunneled Layer 2 PDU received on an NNI port will be restored to its original format.

What is swL2PTPortType?

This object designates the Layer 2 Protocol Tunneling role of a specific switch port: 'none' for a normal port with tunneling disabled, 'uni' for a port facing a customer site where protocol PDUs get tunneled across the provider network, or 'nni' for a port facing the provider network where tunneled PDUs are restored to their original form. Administrators set this per port when building a provider network that needs to carry customer STP or GVRP traffic transparently between sites. For example, setting a port connecting to a customer's switch to uni(2) means BPDUs arriving there will be encapsulated and tunneled rather than processed locally.
