An admin uses it to make sure a multicast filter change is being made against the correct subscriber's STU rather than a different device managed by the same proxy. For example, before adding a new allowed multicast group for a customer's IPTV service, an operator would confirm stuFiltIpMacAddr matches that customer's STU first.
