An admin watches this to see whether a specific QoS category's traffic is being discarded, for example a lower-priority bulk class being dropped in favor of realtime traffic when the virtual path is congested. For example, bytes dropped rising only in the bulk class while the realtime class shows none would confirm QoS prioritization is working as designed.
