Description: VINES protocol count of input packets of unknown VINES protocols.
What is cvIfCountInIpUnknownProtocols?
This per-interface counter tracks received packets carrying a VINES protocol identifier the router doesn't recognize. An admin cares because this flags traffic using a protocol type the router's VINES implementation can't handle, which could mean a newer or vendor-specific extension is in use on that segment. For example, introducing a device running an unsupported VINES protocol extension onto that segment would drive this counter up.
