What is templates?

Templates are ready-made sets of monitoring checks that let you set up monitoring faster and more consistently. Instead of creating dozens of monitors one by one, you apply a template and get a complete “starter pack” for a specific server role or device—like a Windows server, a web server, a mail server, a database, a router, or a UPS. Templates are especially helpful for teams that want standard monitoring coverage across many similar hosts.

Templates in IPNetwork Monitor. In IPNetwork Monitor, an application or device template is a collection of predefined monitors created at once; when applied, it appears as an “application” node in the main tree and groups all template monitors together. IPNetwork Monitor includes a large library of standard templates (servers, domain controllers, mail/web/database servers, virtual machines, UPS, printers, network equipment), and you can also create and import your own templates. Templates can be applied manually via the New Monitor Wizard or automatically during network discovery based on the template’s discovery rules (match conditions). For security and easier reuse, template monitors inherit key settings—like credentials and alerting rules—from the parent host/application rather than storing user credentials inside the template itself. Templates can also include attachments (such as scripts or MIB files) that are placed on disk and referenced by monitors. You can review, edit, export, and import templates in the Templates dialog, making it practical to standardize monitoring across your environment and maintain it as it grows.
