MS SQL Database Monitor is one of IPNetwork’s monitors. You can use it to test connection to a MS SQL database server and run a SQL query. The first column of the dataset returned is interpreted as an integer value and used in performance checks.
MS SQL RDBMS (Relational Database Management System) is a database engine (commercial and free versions are available) Microsoft Corporation. It is a popular database for Windows servers and workstations. SQL queries run on a database could be used for many purposes: from testingdatabase integrity and parameters to analyzing any possible condition for the application using the database. It ispossible, yet inefficient to run such queries manually; they tend to be complex and hard to interpret automatically. Running databases without periodical checks can result in possible problems remaining unseen and data corruption as a result.
IPNetwork Monitor offers MS SQL Database Monitor to provide solution of these tasks.
Creation of MS SQL Database Monitor is simple. Specify host and, if required, port to connect to. Specify instance name (run ‘select @@servername’ on target server when in doubt). To connect to the database you should also provide database instance name, database user name and password to use with that user.
Enter SQL query to run, keeping in mind that the first column of the returned result must be an integer value. After that, adjust availability and performance parameters. The monitor is created and can be used immediately.
There are many cases when MS SQL Database Monitor can be of use. Actual cases depend on what applications are using the database server (see

MS SQL Database Monitor can run for a long time, thus simpler types of monitors should be used wherever possible. Use TCP etc. monitors to check the host for availability and run actual database monitor when connectivity is present. You can also use the
WMI Process monitor to control MS SQL Server process CPU usage and memory consumption.
